Whole Life Insurance Policy Information

As you may or may not know, there are generally two types of life insurance, being Term Life and Whole Life Insurance.  With Term, you are buying coverage for a specified period of time, varrying anywhere between 5 and 30 years.  With Whole, otherwise known as permanent life Insurance, you are buying coverage that will last the duration of your entire life, with premiums that never change.  Additionally, universal and variable life are both forms of whole life insureance having slight differences in policy structure.

One good thing about whole life insurance is that when you hold this type of policy, you not only have insurance protection, but you also have an investment.  All the payments you make towards your policy accrue and have cash value, unlike your typical term life policy.  This means you have access to this cash in the form of a withdrawl, however, borrowing money against your policy in this fashion will reduce the amount of the death benefit when you pass away.

On the down side, whole life insurance is a more expensive form of life insurence protection, but still may be a better suited coverage for your needs.  For starters, it is nice to have a policy where you know your premium will never change.  Additionally, as your policy builds cash value, there are funds that are available to you in case of unexpected emergencies, for you or loved ones.  These are guaranteed cash values that are there as a result of payments you have made to your policy.  You can borrow against your policy in the form of loans, which don't really have to be paid back, however, your death benifit will be reduced by tha amount, and they are not tax exempt.  The amount of these cash valeus will depend on the type of whole life policy you have, and how long you have had it.
